Join us in ensuring that our Homeless Community members in the Town of Ajax receive a gift of a smile for Christmas, through our Gift of love Christmas Program, together we, provide essential and other items needed to show that they are not alone, and we care about them. Lynne Leyland and her daughter Elizabeth Leyland, a young lady who is autistic has been intrumentalal in putting together bags with items donated from their family, friends, and various entities such as Toyota Canada. Sadly, in the first year, there was a large line up and we wish we had more to give. This left us with a hole in our hearts in feeling a sense of needing to do more to help. As we move forward wtih this project we are hoping to add more bags, feed the homeless, and help take care of them throughout the year, and we would love to have your support. If you could donate any items or money to our Charity to help us create more bags and support our vulnerable community, it would be greatly appreciated.
We understand that things are tuff. If you can't contribute, no worries. Please share what we are doing to others in case they can help. We appreciate you and appreciate us all supporting each other even if it’s just giving a smile or donating your time. In 5 years, we have lost 10 or more homeless individuals in the Town of Ajax, many of these deaths were avoidable, they have moms, dads, aunts, uncles, & friends that are left in pain moarning their lost wishing they could have done more to help. If you can reach or help someone, we encourage you to help, because you don't know, this could happen to you or a family member and I hope someone help your love ones if they ever need help. We can't afford to turn the other way and ignored this epidemic.
Dedicated to the Memories of Kim Thompson: This project is done in honour of the memories of Kim Thompson, a grandfather, resident of The Town of Ajax who supported the homeless community, died by suicide in the Town of Ajax and burried in the City of Pickering. Kim not only fed and help take care of the Homeless but every Christmas, Kim was the Santa Claus to a baby boy, he would bring garbage bags filled with wraped presents for a baby boy he wasn't biologically related to but emotionally tied and bonded to as Grandpa. The baby, now a man never met his biological paternal grandfather, but Kim was grandpa and this goes to the point, you don't have to be blood related to love, care or support someone. Love is love.
Elizabeth is a 28 year old woman from Pickering who greatly enjoys helping others. In 2022, she began a Christmas project to create gift bags for the homeless instead of asking for gifts for herself. Thanks to the support of family and friends and a few local businesses, she has been able to create multiple gift bags each year. With the help of her support worker and her mom, she campaigns for donations and money, does all the buying and does all the packing of the bags.

Magnus was homeless, he was one of the homeless individuals we brought food who lived in his car in the Town of Ajax. He was removed from his car by emergency crews, taken to the hospital for care where he went into a coma. Carion was present with his family when Magnus was taken off life support as they listened to Magnus' favourite song dreamer by Oxy Osbourne when he took his last breath. We had a candle light vigil for Magnus with his friends and family who came from out of the country. Magnus was taken back home wiht his family in Iceland where he was laid to rest beside his father. Rest in peace and love Magnus.
Damien is a young man who is loved by his family & friends. He Love Hats, on this birthday, he spoke with his dad for the first time since he was taken from his dad's arms when his dad was deportated to the USA. Damien has been apart of the system and became homeless when he aged out of the system. Damien is trying to go from vulnerability to stability, we are praying for him and we wish him the best.
While dropping off food for our homeless community. Jason said, Carion it was my birthday yesterday, I turned 30 years old. Carion said, oh yeah, why didn't you tell me, I would have brought you cake and pizza for us to celebrate. 2 Days later, Carion and Eithan returned to the Respite parking lot with a birthday cake with Jason's name, candles, a card, chocolate and pizza for everyone and we celebrated Jason's birthday on top of Carion's car in the parking lot, showing Jason that we love him and he is important to us. His birthday was important to him, us and we wanted Jason to know that we love him.
For Christmas 2022, Elizabeth Leyland a young lady diagnosed with Autism prepared a letter with the help of her mother Lynne Leyland, took the letter to businesses, friends and neighbours asking for domation of essential items for the homeless community. Elizabeth was able to put together 20 bags, which was given to our organzation to help the Homeless in Ajax. We delivered the bags to the unsheltered, those in the Shelter and Respite. Thank you to Elizabeth and Lynne Leyland for their amazing gift and contributions. A prime example demonstrating that we all share the responsibility of doing what we can to help if possible and a reminder of the importance of helping each other.

An Ontario judge has denied a municipality’s request to clear a homeless encampment, building on decisions out of British Columbia that he says establish a constitutional right for a person to shelter themselves if accessible indoor spaces aren't available.
The Region of Waterloo had asked the court to find that roughly 50 people living in a Kitchener, Ont., encampment were in violation of its trespassing bylaw. But in a ruling handed down Friday in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the judge found the bylaw violates the Charter rights of the encampment residents because of the region’s lack of adequate shelter spaces.
Homeless mother told her story of how her son's ashes where bulldozered by the Town.
RIP Baby Boy. On the morning of the first 2022 Election debate, the Mayor of #townofajax, Shaun Collier bulldozered what little the homeless had but also took the ashes of a homeless woman's son. We should be better than this as a community.
The mother who loss the Ashes of her dead son, told her the story of the day her belongings where bulldozers by Town of Ajax & confirmed that Mayor Shaun Collier was present, how she tried to save her son's ashes and what happened in her own words.
Karl was staying at a shelter in the Town of Ajax when he was kick out. Karl reported that after expressing his opinion, he was then kicked out, he was very upset that his voice did not matter and felt disrespected. Many of Karl's Causation friends expressed to us that Karl was facing racism. Carion watched his health declining as she reached out to many organizations for help but no help was available but she kept trying. She begged the shelter to meet with her to work out a path to get Karl inside but management said no, he's not coming back. Scared, illucinating and having Seizures. Karl ended up having a major seizure which an ambulance had to be called. Kyle & Christina saved his life. Carion was able to utilize her experience in Hospital Care & Governance to ahve Karl stay in the Hospital until she was able to figure out a pathway forward with Karl and ensuring that he has support in place. Karl was then hospitalize until our team was able to reunite him with his mother and now Karl is living in his new home. All things are possible when your see the person. Together We Are Stronger®.
We are calling on Town of Ajax Council, to create an area in Ajax, which isn't inconveniencing the Ajax Community. Where the homeless can stay, because they are moving from one location to the other on the streets of Ajax. Provide a location that won't impact residents. It's best to get the Homeless off the streets but until then, provide one location that won't impact the community for them to live if the shelter is full.
If you have food or clothing (new, lightly used and clean) that you would like to donate, please email smscm@carionfenn.org

Elizabeth Leyland bags of love is intended to help support the homeless community. In 2022, Elizabth Leyland donated 20 bags of food and essential items needed by the homeless community in Town of Ajax. The demand and need was do high, we ran out of bags. But for those who received it, it was exptremely appreciated. This made a big difference for the homeless knowing that there are other who care and this was how Ms. Fenn met Max who died at the Ajax Pickering Hospital. Max lived in his car on the streets of the Town of Ajax. He was taken out of his car to the Emergency Room at the Ajax Pickering Hospital, where he was in a Coma. Ms. Fenn went to his bed side as soon as she heard so that Max knew and felt that he was not alone as she did not want him to die alone or die not knowing that someone in Ajax cares about him. Ms. Fenn with his family was at Max's hospital bed side as he took his last breathe and she ensured that his favour song played as he ransition. It was telling Max about who Elizbeth is, her project, "Elizabeth Leyland Bags of love that led to him letting Ms. Fenn where to find him if he was not at the Tim Horton's in the Town of Ajax. This allowed Ms. Fenn to drop off food etc to Max each week. It was later known to Ms. Fenn that Max have a daughter who is autistic and hearing about what Elizabeth has been doing resignated with him and he gave us his trust in knowing where he was and how find him in order for us to help support him.
Through the support of our community and businesses, we provide food, clothing and essential items supporting our Town of Ajax Homeless community over 70 - 150 homeless individuals living in the Town of Ajax.
